Arne Slot Insists He Feels Secure and Retains The Club's Backing After PSV Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it was natural for questions to be raised about his position following a further convincing defeat against PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool endured their 9th defeat in 12 matches, marking the club's worst streak since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie title holders on a difficult night at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I've received plenty of backing from the top,” Slot remarked.
“It would be nice to turn it around and secure a win of course but when you're coaching a team and underperforming then it's expected that people question you.”
He continued, “I am OK with my situation. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”
Conversations with The Board
When asked to provide details on his discussions with the team officials, the head coach revealed:
“We communicate frequently. They are supportive to the team and for me and we discuss these matters but they aren't calling me all the time of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He further stated, “During our regular discussions I sense the trust. But I've not talked to them since this match yet so it remains to be seen.”
Persistent Failings and Player Response
Slot lamented familiar failings from his team in their European loss, specifically wasted chances and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more direct in his assessment of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the solutions. Frankly, I don’t. I’m saying that to all,” the midfielder stated.
“It is unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to reflect. I'm beyond feeling anger internally. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the words.”
He added, “It's difficult because I play for the team I support. I support them, and I've watched this club since I was young.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Liverpool team going through a spell of this nature with results this poor.”
He finished, “But we continue to wear the crest on our shirts. And as long as that badge is removed, we'll continue to fight.”
“Our aim is to get this team back to the top, prove again the values of this club and the reason it's called the best team in the planet.”
“At this moment, things are bad and it needs to change.”
