Battlefield 6's Casual Game Mode Sparks Intense Debates Regarding AI Players, XP Rewards, and Queue Times
Over the weekend, the game developers introduced a fresh playlist titled Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode mirrors the regular Breakthrough format but includes a few key changes:
- Every squad has only 8 real players, with the remaining filled by 32 bots.
- Actions performed by real players grant complete experience points, while AI activities offer reduced XP.
- Only two locations can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
- Elements like Player tags, accolades, and career stat updates have been turned off.
In short, this mode delivers on its name: it offers a laid-back take of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume there's nothing wrong, as it gives additional choices for gamers seeking alternative ways to enjoy the game. However, if video games has shown one thing, it's that not everyone will be happy. In other words, many BF6 fans are upset.
Player Reactions: Anger to Support
"Gamers prefer real players. Don't repeat the mistakes of your rivals," states a response to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing idea," says a different user. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user remarks, "It's unclear where we are headed with this title," and someone else details everything they believe to be problematic in the game: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."
On the other hand, amid the criticism, some gamers explaining how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to practice, real players prevent it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," reads a forum post. "The community doesn't understand that there are players who actually go outside and can't play this game all the time. Allow them to strike a balance," states another. One reply on Twitter explains that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," while someone else applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Constructive Criticisms and Player Input
Despite the support, players have valid points to complain about the new mode. A few folks have pointed out that it will make queue times even longer for different playlists due to the large amount of playlists in the game already. On a similar note, certain regions already encounter mostly bots in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode won't start without a required amount of real players, despite it focuses mostly on combat against bots.
Finally, one of the biggest complaints is that Battlefield Portal was meant to provide full XP, including AI matches, but that was removed when they tried to remove bot farms from the system. Thus Casual Breakthrough feels like the community meeting them halfway, as per forum feedback. Another describes this mode as the devs "making a mistake so hard, I had so much fun in the initial release, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"
Future Prospects: Will Changes Occur?
If the development team has demonstrated something to date with Battlefield 6, it's that they're paying attention and acting on feedback. Tasks that were overly hard got fixed rapidly, as did the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, if their data shows this recent mode isn't performing to their expectations, they will not hesitate to change it again.
